What’s in your…day trekking/trail running bag?
You want out on the trail, and you want out there fast! As in NOW!
Trail running? Fast packing? or Day Trekking?
Depending upon the mileage you plan to cover in this get out there NOW trail time, the basic take-along items are pretty similar to each other once you decide to go more than 15 miles in a trail session. Elite trail runners may disagree, but this is about the rest of us…those of us who take just a little bit more time to cover the mileage we want to conquer in a day.
Sometimes, we want to trek and just enjoy the scenery, other times we want to get out there and cover the terrain just as fast and as far as we possibly can in a set amount of time. The idea is to not be overloaded with too many non-essentials, but there are also items that make or break our trail time, especially if something goes wrong.
As a solo trail runner/trekker, I encounter drama on the trails every now and then…
…maybe I was running too hard and too fast and tripped over a gnarly root or rock and slammed my shin onto a sharp rock that bled – a lot (yep, been there and done that);
…what about the face-to-face almost a full-body slam into a mama bear;
…or even, what about having something in my pack when I didn’t eat right earlier in the day, and didn’t hydrate enough, and the whole world was getting woozy on me?
Well, those are only three of many, many moments of personal drama that I have had on my solo treks/training runs, AND…the items in my bag saved my sweet @$$ from increased drama in those times, as well as other moments.
