How to Make Gelatin Gummies for the Trail (and save your aching knees!)
Power up with deep healing treats and fuel your Adventures…
Homemade #Gelatin Gummies? Sure! Made right, these gummies will help heal your deep aching joints and tissues from pushing hard on the mileage!
This is the first of a full series of videos for treats to take along on your adventures – above and beyond grabbing a candy bar or store-bought energy bar. These will be easy to prep ahead of time and provide you with awesome and “powerFuel” nutrition for your next adventure.
While not every quick hike out for an afternoon requires nutrient-dense treats, these quick activities provide a great opportunity for a test drive of the foods that pack well, fill you up, and give you really high-test fuel for the longer haul. Always better to pre-test any item, food, or gear before you get far out and away from civilization and find out you have an issue that you didn’t expect from the food or gear.
I sometimes participate in ultra-endurance events – whether powering through a 50k or 100K ultra trail race with complete aid stations or a weekend pushing for 50 to 100 miles while power #backpacking, and even enjoying a totally relaxed weekend leisurely backpacking, #hiking, #kayaking with family and friends. One thing I learned early on was that without deep fueling, I would hit a freaking wall that would often result in injuries or even sickness. Most folks approach these activities with a lot of refined carbs and sugary foods, which while sort of okay for the short haul (time wise and distance), those foods do not make for a good finish to longer and harder endurance events.
Nothing wrong with those treats, they are great for grab and go, but I want to share some homemade goodies that give you even deeper fuel for the adventure – whether you are hiking, backpacking, a long day of kayaking, or whatever your adventure of the day is going to be.
This is the Gelatin product that I use for this recipe. Gelatin, just like bone broth, goes deep to heal our joints and connective tissues. I will write another article about these deep-healing nutrients that can make such a difference in successfully finishing endurance events.
Here is the first basic and super simple recipe from the video:
